Ready for Christmas

Fiona met Santa on Saturday at Lexington Green. She did not cry and was very curious. The photographer would make noise to try and get her attention and smile at her to try and get her to smile but Fiona was fairly unresponsive. Occasionally she would look where the photographer wanted when he wanted but mostly he had to just take shots and hope some of them were good. There were quite a few good shots with Santa but I settled on the one with her smiling. Super cute.

Fiona also had her first Dawahare Christmas Party on Sunday. She refused to nap at the party but was fairly social and tolerated the passing game very well. The baby hogs that were present got lots of baby time.

Fiona has one more holiday dinner tomorrow and then needs to rest for the 3 Christmases she will have this year (and most years actually).

3 months old today

It is hard to believe that Fiona is 3 months old today. It does not feel like it has been that long. Looking back at the pictures I cannot believe how much she has changed in such a short period of time. Fiona talks often and loves her bath. She is taking naps in her own room and will soon be sleeping in her crib at night. Fiona loves daddy time, including watching hockey.

2 Month Doctor's Appointment

Fiona did just fine at her doctor's appointment yesterday. She was
there for her two month old shots. There are several rounds of most
of the shots, but we've been told that this one was a tough one. But
Fiona did just fine. She did cry, more at the fact that her legs were
pinned down than actual pain. After the shots, she cried for a minute
or two, but it was actually less than I've heard when she's hungry.

I had to check off some answers to some developmental survey questions
as well. They were things like, "My baby makes sounds other than
crying," or "My baby can track objects in front of him/her," and "My
baby can hold his/her head up when laying on his/her stomach." I was
very proud to not only be able to check "True" for all of them, but to
know that we have photographic (and videographic!) evidence for all of
them.

We go back in two months for another round of shots.

Her vitals:

Weight: 10 lbs 2 oz (25th - 50th percentile)
Length: 23 inches (75th percentile)
Head circumference: 15.25 in (50th percentile)

Last night, Emily managed to get a video of Fiona "playing" with a
toy. This is a bee that has bright colors whose wings make crinkly
noises. You can definitely see her looking at it and moving her hand
near it, so that's a big step.

Small video and photo set

We just posted some new stuff.

Video is here. Photos are here.

We go to the doctor tomorrow, so we should have some more information about Fiona's vital statistics tomorrow.

Oh, and she gets shots, but we're trying not to talk about that...

New Photo Set

We just put up a new Flickr set. This one includes the Spider-man picture you've all been waiting on, plus a couple of our pets "helping" break in some of Fiona's equipment.

Fiona turned eight weeks old yesterday, she's growing so fast! We go to the doctor's office next week (I think) to get her two month shots. We're not looking forward to that.

New set is here.

Non-Fiona News

Just a quick note, for those of you who haven't heard, Kevin has been accepted into Pharmacy School.

Everyone else is doing fine, though obviously super-excited for their husband (Emily) or Daddy (Fiona).

Fiona weighing in

We took Fiona to the doctor today to get some dry skin in her eyebrows and bumps that have spread to her upper chest inspected. Emily thought the eyebrows might be eczema and we thought the bumps might be a rash. Turns out Fiona has cradle cap in her eyebrows and her baby acne has spread down to her upper chest. The doctor said otherwise she looks great still. And, Fiona is weighing in at 9 lbs 13 oz. Growing like a weed!

Fiona's first visit to BBSRB

Fiona made her first visit to BBSRB with Emily to deliver cupcakes and meet everyone at work. Fiona is 5 weeks old today. We will upload more pictures soon.

Four Weeks pictures

Fiona celebrated her four week birthday this week, as well as her one-month birthday. To celebrate, we have some new pictures up on Flickr.

You might notice her creative wearing of a hat, and her unofficial height measurement.

New set is available here.

Doctor Appointment and Photo Session

Fiona had her doctor's appointment today (two weeks - - yes, she was
pushed back a week because her doctor was out of town). Everything
was good. She's still 21 inches tall, but now weighs 8 lbs 10.5 oz.
Her head size is 14.5". This puts her in the 75th percentile for
height, 50th - 75th percentile for weight, and 75th percentile for
head (at this age, the ranges are rather broad). She's gained 15
ounces in two weeks.

The doctor said we should see Fiona start a growth spurt here before too long.

Also, Carlisle Photography has posted the pictures from our photo
session. While these look amazing (we love them!), please remember
that we will be getting everyone's order together before we actually
order anything. So pick out all the ones you like, but please don't
order anything yet!

Two more visits, one more photoset

Just a brief note to say there's a new photo set up on Flickr.

Also, Flickr has just informed me that it will only display the latest 200 items. So if you saw some pictures up earlier and now don't see them, please let me know. At this point, we're not going to pay to upgrade the account.

Two new photo sets published

Just a couple of small updates on Flickr. One is from when Uncle Frank and company visited her and the other are just some random shots. The second set does include a brief sharing moment where we got to sit with Bogey (one of our cats) in the glider. It did not last long.

Nothing really new, though Fiona did get her first bare navel bath today. No pictures, as we were trying to keep her from wiggling out of the bath tub.

Brief update

Fiona had her appointment today with Carlisle Photography today. We did the "Baby on Black" photo session. Mostly, it was pictures of Fiona with Kevin and Emily, and a couple by herself. Fiona did a wonderful job (well, after she was fed). Emily says some of the photos looked awesome, but we won't know for sure for about a week. Naturally, we'll let you know when the photos are available.

Michele (the photographer) said that if we order $400 or more, we get a special offer. I didn't want to bother explaining how many pictures we'll be ordering, but I don't think it will be a problem to get any kind of special offer.

Also, when we got home, Fiona's umbilical cord came off. So she actually has a recognizable belly button now. Hurray! Now we don't have to worry about touching the thing whenever she's belly-to-belly with us. There are a couple of pictures of her newly smooth stomach up on Flickr.

Another picture set up

Another small picture set available. Nothing particularly fancy, just some visits and Fiona sleeping.

Enjoy!

Doctor visit today

We just got back from the followup doctor's appointment today. Fiona is back up over her birth weight, coming in at 7 lbs 3.5 oz. Usually, you'd expect a baby to get back over their birth weight in about two weeks, so the doctor was thrilled.

For those of you keeping track, this means that everyone in the house weighs more than they did when they were born. Yay!

We go back to the doctor in a week for another appointment, mostly to check her weight. So far, so good.

First bath video

New video has just been posted:

Fiona's First Bath

No music on this one, so it shouldn't be any problem to watch it. Enjoy!

New Video posted

We just posted another video. Very similar pictures (some duplicates), but we're working on it.

It is available here.

Four new pictures up at Flickr

The doctor called earlier and said that Fiona does not have a problem with her red blood cells so she did not need to get in the sun. But, we thought it would be a good trial run, so we did go out for a walk (mama, papa, baby, and Maggie Mae).

There are a couple of pictures up on Flickr. Enjoy!

First Full Day at Home Update

Everyone is doing great on our first full day home from the hospital. Fiona slept well last night, waking every couple of hours to eat. Emily was the perfect mother, waking up before the alarm went off and patiently making sure Fiona had plenty to eat before she was allowed to fall asleep again.

We had our followup appointment with the pediatrician today. Normally, they wait three days on this appointment, but that would have been Sunday, and since the office is closed on Sunday, they had us come in Friday. But the doctor said she looked perfect (no surprise there!). Fiona has gained back some of her weight (back to 6 pounds, 14.5 ounces, up from 6 lbs 13 oz on Thursday).

There was some concern when Fiona was born that she would be a candidate for jaundice. That's because her blood type is A+ (which she got from Daddy), while Emily's is O+. The antigens in Emily's blood (the ones that fight off other proteins like A and B) can transfer to Fiona's blood in the last few days of pregnancy. What this would mean is that Fiona would produce more red blood cells then her body could get rid of. Thankfully, they tested her and she is doing fine.

One thing the doctor did suggest was going outside, as the sunlight stimulates the processing of these surplus red blood cells. Although we don't really need to do this, we might try it later just to get Fiona out and about. (Look for pictures!)

We go back to the doctor on Monday, just for a weight check to make sure she's doing okay. Over the weekend, we're expecting a visit or two from friends and family, so it will be a big couple of days.

Fiona has eaten well several times today and is just now sleeping.

Thanks again for all your love and support, we love all of you!

Updates

Hershey's is still breech but we are hoping baby turns in the next few weeks. Kevin's last physics test is Thursday. Kevin got his PCAT results yesterday and scored in the 95th percentile. We are very excited. He will apply to pharmacy school this fall and hopefully start in the fall of 2011.

The furniture is in the baby's room (not assembled) and painting should happen next weekend. We have been blessed with the generosity of family and friends and have received many gifts for baby that we are eager to organize and set-up.

Kevin's theory on how to put men v women to sleep

We were walking out of Kroger last night and Kevin was excited because the hockey playoffs were starting. I made the comment that he was going to fill me with carbs so I would fall asleep early and he could have the tv in either room. He said no because I was pregnant that I would fall asleep. I got fake offended and he said something to the effect of: With guys, you just have to give them sex and they fall asleep. With women, you give them sex and get them pregnant and they fall asleep for 9 months.
